A Day in the Life Aboard a Kerala Houseboat

Check-in usually happens around noon, with a welcome drink served as the crew casts off and the boat begins its slow drift through the backwaters.

Lunch is served fresh onboard — usually a Kerala-style thali with rice, fish curry and seasonal vegetables — while you watch village life unfold along the banks.

The afternoon is unhurried: some guests nap in the air-conditioned cabin, others sit on the deck reading or simply watching the water go by. Late afternoon is when the boat usually anchors for the night near a quiet stretch of the lake.

Evenings bring the best part of the day — a long, colourful sunset, followed by a hot dinner and a peaceful night's sleep gently rocked by the water.
